These tools keep the drill or tap perpendicular to the surface of the
piece being tapped or drilled. The three-piece set handles common drills from
1/16" to 1/4" and all taps and tap drills from 0-80 through 1/4". The Guides are also
available individually. We’ll first show how to get wing bolts in straight. |
Step 1 Once the wing has been aligned, tape the wing and fuselage together.
Then dent the hole locations with a scriber or an awl. |
Step
2 Drill 1/16” holes only through the plywood
reinforcement. It will start the tap drill at the exact location. |
Step
3 While holding the
Tap-N-Drill guide firmly against the plywood reinforcement, Drill the tap
drill hole completely through the wing and wing mounting blocks in the
fuselage. |
Step
4 Tap
the hole. Screw the wing to the fuselage with a wing bolt and repeat these
four steps for the other wing bolt hole. |
Step
5 Now unbolt the
wing and drill through the the wing with the tap’s clearance drill. |
Here
you see the completed installation. |
Now let’s show just a few of the many
other applications |
The plywood bracket
is screwed perpendicular to the firewall. A fuel filler attaches to it.
Getting the pilot holes for the mounting screws drilled straight into the
thin plywood presents no problem. Put the piece in a vise flush with the vice
jaws, use the Tap-N-Drill guide as shown in the lower photo. That one happens
to be TND003. |
Here
we are drilling a hole for a wire aileron horn in a preshaped aileron. Some
helpful things you should notice. The wood scrap under the Guide spaces it so
the Guide’s hole is the same height above the building board as the aileron’s
hinge line. The black area is photo masking tape that keeps the aileron
center plane parallel to the bench. |
The
Tap-N-Drill guide helps keeps tap perpendicular to the muffler mount surface
while cleaning a gritty screw hole. |
After
using the Drill Bushing Kit to get the tap drill hole drilled straight in the
motor mount, the Tap-N-Drill guide keeps the tap concentric with the hole. |
